If you are a business owner in Missouri and have designated a registered agent and are not satisfied with the service you have received, you can change agents. However, this requires you to file a change form with the state if you switch registered agent services.

It is a simple process, but it can feel overwhelming if you are unsure of what you need to do. There are a couple of ways to file a change form. You will need to take a few steps when changing registered agents but first, let’s review what a change form is and how much it will cost to file.

What is a Change Form?

A Missouri Statement of Change of Registered Agent form is a document that a business must file with the state if they wish to change their registered agent in Missouri. You will submit this form to the Secretary of State’s office for processing.

There are several ways to file a change form, and there is a filing fee of $10 you will need to pay at the time of processing if you file the paperwork yourself. If you have any questions regarding this form, you should discuss it with your new registered agent.

3 Steps to Changing Your Registered Agent Services in Missouri

There are three general steps you will need to take if you feel it is necessary to change your Missouri registered agent services. These include:

1. Select an Agent

Before changing registered agents, you will want to choose whom you will appoint as your next representative. You can select a person or a company you trust.

Fees for these services vary. So, you will want to make sure that you do your research regarding how much it will cost and what services they cover.

2. Notify Former Agent

Finding the best registered agent services for your corporation or LLC is not always cut and dry. You may not find one that is the best fit for your company. If you decide to change, the next step is to notify your current agent that you will no longer need their services.

3. Submit Change Form

The final step is to complete and submit your Missouri Statement of Change of Registered Agent form. You will then file it with the Missouri Secretary of State.

If you are unsure how to complete and submit your form, resources are available to assist you. That way, you can ensure that you have filed the paperwork correctly.

How to Change Your Registered Agent in Missouri

Filing a change form in the state of Missouri has just gotten easier for business owners. You have two options.

File Yourself by Mail or Online

Your first option is to file the form yourself. Just download the PDF form available online from the Missouri Secretary of State’s website. Once you have it completed, you can mail it in (along with a check for the filing fee), fax the form (and mail in your payment), or go in person.

You can now change your registered agent in Missouri online. The electronic form is available online on the Missouri Secretary of State’s website. You will need a credit or debit card to pay your filing fee electronically.

If you file your change form online, the fee is $25 instead of the $10 to mail the form or file in person. Alternatively, an agent may take care of this fee for you if you decide to choose your next option.

Hire Registered Agent Services

The most convenient way to file a change form is to allow your new registered agent to do the paperwork for you. Since they will need to sign the form before filing, it is more convenient to let them manage the process.

If you do decide to file the paperwork yourself and the registered agent is not available to sign the change form at that time, you can have them attach a separate written consent form in lieu of a signature.

Do note that there isn’t an option to change your registered agent services in Missouri when you file your annual report. You will need to do this separately either by mail, fax, online, or in person.
